The session began with a powerful idea—PaƱcāṅga Śravaṇam. Tradition holds that simply listening to the PaƱcāṅga brings the merit of a sacred dip in the Ganga. That sense of puṇya set the tone for the evening.

On Vyāsa Day, the Dr. S. Jayasree Memorial Endowment and Sri T.V. Nagaraja Iyer Endowment lecture brought together tradition and modern insight in a meaningful way.

Hosted by The Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute (KSRI) in association with The Samskrita Academy, Madras, the lecture took place on 28th April 2026, 3:30 PM, at Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Hall, Sanskrit College Campus, Mylapore, Chennai.

Dr. T.V. Vasudeva and Prof. R. Parthasarathy explored the PaƱcāṅga—especially the Srirangam PaƱcāṅga—through a geographical lens, presenting deep insights in a clear and engaging manner.

šŸ”¹ Dr. Vasudeva explained the concept of Nava-Nāyakas and Upa-Nāyakas—planetary forces guiding areas like rainfall, agriculture, and economy—and how their nature influences outcomes.

šŸ”¹ Prof. Parthasarathy connected these ideas to geography through KÅ«rma Vibhāga, showing how ancient scholars mapped and understood regional patterns across climate and livelihoods. He also highlighted how Sasyādhipati, Dhānyādhipati, and Arghyādhipati together reflect the economic framework.

A key takeaway: the potential to link the traditional 60-year Prabhava cycle with modern climatic patterns—opening new directions for Indian Knowledge Systems.

The session was well received by traditional Sanskrit scholars, modern researchers both in offline and online mode, reflecting strong interdisciplinary interest.
